This little sediment pond is right in the middle
of the lava flow (at about 0445 hrs on the tow track). When part of the
lava flow is lower than the rest, sediment slides from the surface of the
lava flow and piles up in the depression. However, we can see from the
fissure, which is about 50 centimeters wide, that the sediment is not very
thick.
