We are back onto a narrow part of the lava flow
(at about 0400 hrs on the tow track) that connects the northern and
southern parts of the flow. These lava forms are called “plobates” -- a
combination of the words for “lobate” and “pillow” lavas.
Lobate flows are usually very flat, and pillows very round, but these
lavas are somewhere in between.
