We are back onto a narrow part of the lava flow (at about 0400 hrs on the tow track) that connects the northern and southern parts of the flow. These lava forms are called “plobates” -- a combination of the words for “lobate” and “pillow” lavas. Lobate flows are usually very flat, and pillows very round, but these lavas are somewhere in between.
