three methods to study hydrothermal plumes from the ship « Previous | Next »

We use three methods to study hydrothermal plumes from the ship.
A) Lowering a CTD in a series of vertical “casts.”
B) Raising and lowering the CTD while slowly towing it from the ship, called a “Tow-Yo.”
C) Towing the Argo-II camera system near the seafloor with sensors, called MAPRs, placed on the fiber optic cable above it. (See the Hot Topic on MAPRs for an explanation of these sensors).
