This is a crinoid, or sea lily, a member of the sea star and sea urchin family (echinoderms). They have a long stalk that is attached to the bottom by tendrils, and feed by filtering plankton with its long arms. There are about 80 known species of crinoids that live in the deep-sea. « Previous | Next »

The Galápagos sea lion is found throughout the Galápagos Islands, usually living in colonies on the coasts. Here is a photo of a sea lion and her pup (this one is about 2-3 days old); they recognize each other by crying sounds and smell, and stay together for about 2 years. (Rob Otto, 2001)
