This is a deep-sea squat lobster. It appears a bright white on the black and white photograph, but they are really an orange-red color. Red light can only reach a hundred meters into the ocean, so this wavelength never reaches the seafloor. Many deep-sea creatures are red so that they can hide from predators. The picture width is about 0.5 meters across.
