Mike Perfit and Maya Tolstoy discuss the successful dredging that was carried out tonight. We took three dredges along the East Pacific Rise axis between 1° 42’N and 1° 45’N. We recovered fresh volcanic glass, pillow lava, and some lobate lava in the dredges. Mike’s preliminary finding was that the dredge near 9° 45’N looked like it had slightly fresher volcanic glass. Does this mean that the 1997 eruption happened there? We will lower Argo II to the seafloor tomorrow morning to have a look!
