April 3, 2000 Is there something that allows people to live underwater in a work station? When people live underwater in a workstation, where do they put their food and what do they eat? From, Signe O’neale Hi Signe: We are now doing science using remote vehicles, the Argo II and DSL-120 mapping systems. The DSL-120 sonar makes acoustic images of the seafloor and Argo II takes pictures of the ocean bottom. Right now, people don’t live underwater, although some research has been done on people living and working in quite shallow water, just a few hundred feet or so. My research has not involved that type of science, but if you are interested in that subject you might try looking at the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) website to see if they have information on their undersea habitat program. My guess is that they have to be quite careful about how they keep and prepare their food, and someone needs to bring them supplies every few days. I hope this helps answer your question.
