Steve Tottori and Dan Jacobson inspect the ceiling of a lava tube on the summit of Santa Cruz volcano. Lava tubes form by lava flowing down the flanks of volcanoes through underground conduits that later drain when the eruption subsides. This lava tube is called “Cave of the Pirates.”
