The stern boards and stern A-frame have been removed to expose the stern ramp for cleaning and painting. The stern ramp is similar to ramps found on trawlers, and could be used for hauling nets in fisheries research. On RV Melville, it is not used very often, so most of the time it is boarded over to provide additional deck space.
