A 3-dimensional model of the East Pacific Rise seafloor that Uta Peckman produced based on the multibeam bathymetry survey we ran early this morning. The red colors indicate where the ridge is higher (at a water depth of 2900 meters), and the blue and purple colors indicate where there are valleys (at water depths greater than 3400 meters). Our next step is to survey an area along, and to either side of, the axis for several kilometers (see yellow arrow), which is where the earthquakes occurred that we recorded with the Autonomous Hydrophone Array.
