Mike Perfit (left) and Ben Wigham inspect volcanic
glass collected using “Mighty Mo”, the rock corer. All
the black chips of rock in the pale yellow wax in the front of the
plastic tray are pieces of the glassy rinds of pillow lavas. The
cutters filled with wax in the back compartments of the plastic
tray are ready to be inserted into the nose of “Mighty Mo”
for the next rock coring station.
