The row of TV monitors permit the fish flyer (Yogi) and the watch leader (Mike) to see that the cable is smoothly winding on and off the winch spool, and passing through the block on the A-frame on Melville’s stern (leftmost monitor). Any snarling of the cable along its path could cause it to jam, or snap with tremendous force! So it is very important for everyone’s safety that the watch standers keep an eye on the TV monitors at all times.
