The “Daves” (Able Seaman Grimes holding the net, Chief Mate Murline on the left) have been catching loads of fish. The two fish in the net were both hooked on the same lure. When fish are feeding, they become very competitive, and will go after the same prey. In the Control Van, Mike Perfit (standing) looks over Yogi’s shoulder as he “flies the sonar fish”. Yogi operates the winch controls that let out and bring in the fiber optic cable that connects the DSL-120 sonar vehicle to the ship. When the sea floor deepens, Yogi must let out more cable to remain close enough for data to be collected; when the seafloor shallows, he must spool cable back in to keep the vehicle from crashing into the bottom!
