As the DSL-120 sonar vehicle is deployed off the port side of the fantail, its movements are controlled by quick release ropes attached at both ends of the instrument. These tag lines prevent the vehicle from hitting the side of the ship as it is lowered into the water. The vehicle is released from the small crane by a pull-pin release rope that Bob Elder is holding.
