Squid are present in Antarctic waters, as they are throughout the world’s oceans. Some are small, and some are fearsome predators, such as a recently found 4-meter (13-foot) squid that has hooks on its arms. Squid eat larger fish and other animals, and also eat krill and jellyfish, and they are food for fishes, albatrosses, seals, penguins, and toothed whales, including sperm whales. Some countries have active squid fisheries in the Antarctic.
