Dr.
Craig Cary, Principal Investigator
Associate Professor of Marine
Biology-Biochemistry
University of Delaware
Dr. Cary studies how bacteria living in hydrothermal
vents have adapted to these extreme environments. He does so by studying the
bacteria's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid-the essential building blocks of life).
He also uses these molecular techniques to research how bacterial communities
interact in extreme environments.
He is also studying how the symbiotic bacteria that
live in larger organisms such as tubeworms (Riftia) are passed on to
the offspring of these animals.
