Alvin pilot Bruce Strickrott guides Dive and Discover photographer Ian Yurdin in the finer points of donning an oxygen mask. This would only be necessary if a serious problem arose with Alvin. The challenge is to form a perfect seal between mask and face, because any leak could endanger the lives of all three people in the submersible.
