Expedition Leader Bob Elder makes last-minute adjustments to the tail-end of the DSL-120 sonar vehicle. The large yellow squares are pieces of syntactic foam that keep the heavy vehicle “neutrally bouyant” in the depths--so that it can float above the seafloor rather than sink to the bottom.
